The Nokia flagship phone offers Asian User Interface and Asian Short Messaging -Nokia Launches the New Nokia 8110 Plus GSM Handportable
March 20, 1997
Nokia today announced an upgraded version of the Nokia 8110, the sophisticated high-end GSM handportable. Called the Nokia 8110 plus, the new product combines the innovative design of its predecessor with totally new features. The Nokia 8110 plus will be available in Asia in April.
- The Nokia 8110, with its state-of-the-art design and superb functionality, has been a success in the demanding Asian high-end market segment. Nokia first offered local languages with the launch of Nokia 8110’s Asian user interface. We take a step further now with the introduction of Asian language SMS, demonstrating our commitment to provide customised products and features tailored to the specific needs of consumers in Asia Pacific, says Nigel Litchfield, Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Asia Pacific.
The Nokia 8110 plus incorporates the Asian user interface, speaking both simplified and traditional Chinese, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, English as well as Spanish. A totally new feature in the Nokia 8110 plus is the Asian SMS which now supports both simplified and traditional Chinese as well as Thai, making Nokia the first manufacturer to offer both simplified and traditional Chinese as well as Thai characters in one phone. Transmission of text messages to the phone is made even easier for users who can now use their own languages.
The new improved handset also features a new silver-white colour tone in its display frame, reflecting total elegance and style. A selection of stylish coloured covers to suit different lifestyles and personal tastes will be available for the Nokia 8110 plus starting in June.
Uniquely curved, the Nokia 8110 plus fits naturally in the hand and in the pocket. With the innovative sliding cover, the phone can be adjusted to an ideal ear-to mouth ratio for better clarity of sound. The slide also protects the keypad of the phone.
The Nokia 8110 plus comes with an illuminated full graphics display which automatically changes the text font size for best viewing. Other useful features include the dedicated voice mail box button, various speed dialling options, and simple phone management.
The Nokia 8110 plus is small and lightweight at 152 grams with the standard Lithium-ion battery. The phone delivers long operating times: talk time is typically up to 2 hours or standby up to 70 hours with the standard battery, while the extended battery provides up to 5 hours talk time or 150 hours of standby.
The phone supports full data connectivity including the latest Nokia Cellular Data Suite. A new and innovative solution offered by Nokia, the Nokia Cellular Data Suite is a software-based wireless data solution which integrates WindowsÒ 95 with the Nokia phone, enabling users to send and receive e-mail, faxes, computer files and short messages via the cellular network.
The new Nokia 8110 plus shares the accessories of the other products in the Nokia 8100 series, including desktop stands, chargers, headset and car kits and extended Lithium-ion batteries.
