Nokia Serving the Helsinki Summit
March 19, 1997
Nokia, the international telecommunications company, is cooperating with the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs by supplying various telecommunications terminals for the Helsinki Summit. The Summit will be the first global arena combining two new and growing technologies - the Internet and mobility. According to many observers, it is the Helsinki Summit which will be the first "Internet Summit" since there will be many opportunities to follow the event globally via the Internet. With its over 30% mobile phone penetration, Finland also enjoys the world´s highest Internet penetration figures.
In cooperation with other Finnish high tech companies and telecom operators, Nokia has supplied the Summit Press Center as well as several Summit delegates, with mobile phones. Nokia is the sole supplier of the monitors used during the entire Summit.
During the past couple of weeks, Nokia has hosted a number of international journalists representing television and radio stations, newspapers and magazines. The company also looks forward to continuing to supply information about the telecommunications industry as well as the Nokia Group and its activities during the Summit.
