Nokia Launches The Outstanding Nokia 8148 Handportable For DCS 1800
March 12, 1997
Nokia today announced its superior new product for the high-end DCS 1800 (PCN) segment, the Nokia 8148. Combining state-of-the-art design and outstanding performance, the Nokia 8148 successfully redefines the boundaries for the high-end DCS 1800 category. The phone will be available worldwide in March.
- The Nokia 8148 is a distinctive new addition to the Nokia 8100 series of digital handsets, integrating all the innovative and unique design elements, superior features and functionality of its product family. It is a superb new product for the new business segment in DCS 1800, and we are confident that it will be a clear leader in its category, says Anssi Vanjoki, Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Europe and Africa.
The Nokia 8148 combines elegant design with industry-leading performance. The phone’s unique, curved shape fits naturally in the hand. Coupled with the innovative sliding cover, it curves perfectly around the face for an ideal ear-to-mouth ratio and provides for the best clarity of sound. The sliding cover also protects the keypad.
The Nokia 8148 is designed to offer the full range of distinctive features with true ease of use reminiscent of the 8100 series. It is the first Nokia DCS 1800 phone with a dot matrix full graphics display, which allows for automatic adjustment of text size for easy viewing, offering advantages in terms of display of special character sets such as Chinese.
Besides offering the full range of features, the Nokia 8148 incorporates also new features, such as Alternate Line Service (ALS) and Call Transfer. With ALS, users can use two separate phone numbers in the SIM card and choose different lines for each outgoing call, while Call Transfer makes it possible to divert ongoing calls.
The Nokia 8148 is lightweight at 149 grams with the Lithium-Ion standard battery. Small in size and lightweight, the phone delivers operating times that outperform any lightweight DCS 1800 handset in the market; talk time is up to 2 hours or standby up to 70 hours with the standard battery, while the extended battery offers up to 5 hours talk time or 150 hours of standby.
The phone shares the accessories of the Nokia 8110, including car kits, desktop stands, phone holders, all chargers as well as the standard and extended high performance Lithium-Ion batteries.
