Nokia and Kiasma Integrate Technology and Art
February 06, 1997

Nokia has signed a cooperation agreement with "Kiasma", the Helsinki Museum of Contemporary Art. In part, the three-year agreement creates the prerequisites to exploit the latest data and telecommunications technology in the construction of the museum and in its future program policy.

Kiasma’s objective is to display the art using the latest media and telecommunications technologies. Interactive methods, digital network solutions and the Internet offer interesting opportunities for cooperation with Nokia.

"The cooperation with Kiasma supports our corporate image as a global leader in telecommunications. Kiasma is a unique cultural project utilizing new innovations in communications and state-of-the-art technology," says Nokia President and CEO Jorma Ollila.

Kiasma’s mission of a virtual museum is a project of international interest. New technology allows almost anyone, anywhere and at any time to “visit” the contemporary art museum in Helsinki.

Kiasma’s plans of boosting young people’s knowledge of media technology and media arts support Nokia’s own activities aimed at school-age and university students. The cooperation agreement just signed also diversifies Nokia’s areas of sponsorship, which, in addition to education and scientific cooperation, have traditionally included athletics and music.
