Nokia Supplies DCS Network Expansion to TAC of Thailand

Total Access Communications Public Company Limited (TAC) and Nokia have signed a frame agreement for the delivery of digital cellular network equipment for the 1997 expansion of TAC’s DCS 1800 network in Thailand. The agreement is valued at around USD 50 million, and the deliveries are starting immediately.
Under the agreement Nokia delivers to TAC expansions to the Mobile Switching Network, Base Stations and Base Station controllers, as well as implementation and, operation and maintenance services. The deal includes also Nokia’s Data Communications Server equipment (DaCS), which will allow TAC to offer its customers fast and efficient Mobile Data services.
This contract further strengthens Nokia’s position as the main supplier to the TAC’s DCS 1800 network.
TAC, a member in the UCOM group, is a leading provider of wireless communications services in Thailand with 1996 revenue estimated to exceed USD 400 million. TAC’s cellular operations consist of analogue AMPS network and digital DCS 1800 network. Total number of subscribers currently amounts close to 700,000 and is increasing rapidly.
