Nokia Introduces Slim and Stylish Phone to Complement Analog Line
January 09, 1997

-- At less than 7 ounces, the Nokia 918 incorporates many popular features of the award-winning 232 in a slim, lightweight design --

Nokia, the world’s second largest manufacturer of cellular and wireless phones, today introduced the Nokia 918, a slim and lightweight analog cellular phone designed for people who want some of today’s most advanced features in a basic, easy-to-use unit. The Nokia 918 will be available through carriers, dealers and selected retailers this month.

The new Nokia 918 is designed with seven one-touch feature keys, including voicemail access, keyguard activation, memory storage, calling card and emergency number dialing. The phone features a large, easy-to-read 16-character display and easy menu-driven programming instructions, which dramatically simplify activation. An authentication feature built into the phone helps minimize fraud. A full range of accessories including compact battery-conditioning desktop charging stands and versatile car installation kits are also available. The Nokia 918 is available in black, blue, green, red or yellow, and the fashionable colored covers are also available as an optional accessory.

“The Nokia 918 was designed to be as advanced as you want and as basic as you need,” said Jamie Keeffe, product manager, Nokia Mobile Phones. “Customers say they prefer our product when tested against the primary competitive models.”

The Nokia 918 is positioned to provide consumers with many of the advance features of the Nokia 232, but with the basic, easy-to-use functions of the Nokia 638. The slim, lightweight phone is designed similarly to that of the award-winning Nokia 232.

In its introductory configuration, the Nokia 918 weighs 6.7 ounces, provides 75 minutes of talk time and 15 hours of standby time. An optional NiCd extended battery pack will provide 100 minutes of talk time and 21 hours of standby time.
