Archie Manning Named National Spokesman for 1997 Nokia Sugar Bowl

National Promotion with $1 Million Prize Unveiled

Archie Manning, the legendary quarterback for Old Miss and the New Orleans Saints, and the MVP of the 1970 Sugar Bowl, has been named national spokesman for the 1997 Nokia Sugar Bowl, Nokia announced today.



In addition, Matt Wisk, director of marketing for Nokia, announced that Nokia is sponsoring national promotion in conjunction with the Nokia Sugar Bowl called the 'Nokia Best Connection Sweepstakes'” Kicking off October 1 at 15,000 retail outlets around the country, the Nokia Best Connection Sweepstakes will culminate during halftime of the Nokia Sugar Bowl on January 2, 1997 when three lucky fans will attempt to win $1 million.

The 1997 Nokia Sugar Bowl, to be played in the Louisiana Superdome, and telecast live by ABC Sports beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST, will determine the Collegiate Bowl Alliance National at Champion.

As Nokia Sugar Bowl spokesman, Manning will help promote the game both in his adopted hometown of New Orleans and around the country. He will take part in the halftime promotion at the game.

Fans will be able to enter the Nokia Best Connection Sweepstakes between October 1 - November 30, 1996 by completing an entry form available at retail outlets where Nokia cellular phones are sold, at Oldsmobile dealership around the country, at any Radio Shack store or at participating Texaco locations. The promotion will be supported by an extensive print and broadcast advertising buy.

A random drawing will select three entrants who will attend the Nokia Sugar Bowl courtesy of Nokia. At halftime, before a live audience of more than 70,000, and 20 million viewer watching on ABC, one of the contestants will have the chance to throw a football at a giant Nokia mobile phone. If the contestants hits the send button, he or she will win $1 million. Other buttons on the phone will be designated with other prizes, including a 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada, a $10,000 shopping spree at Radio Shack and other Nokia products. Other partners offering prizes are: National Car Rental, America Online, Energizer, Texas Instruments, Sega, Delta Airlines and Texaco.
