Nokia Supplies Telecommunications Network Expansion to the City of Stockholm
September 16, 1996
Nokia Telecommunications and AB Stokab have signed a contract for the supply of telecommunications network expansion and a network management system to the City of Stockholm in Sweden. The contract further strengthens Stockholm’s position as a leader of high technology in urban society in Europe. The value of the contract is more than FIM 10 million.
Nokia will deliver to Stockholm its PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) and SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission equipment and a state-of-the-art network management system. This network improves effectiveness of internal communications by connecting schools, authorities and city owned companies as well as ensuring connections to the Local Area Network (LAN). The first phase of the network will be in use in December 1996.
“The expansion of Stockholm’s telecommunications network will show an example how to improve internal communications in administration. It gives us new opportunities to use high level data and telephone services, e.g. telephone and video conferences. This means we can save costs in time and money,” said Mr. Anders Comstedt, Managing Director of AB Stokab.
AB Stokab is a subsidiary of Stockholms Stadshus AB, owned by the City of Stockholm.
