Nokia Telecommunications to Renew Mode of Operation

Nokia Telecommunications is to renew its mode of operation as of January 1, 1997. The new mode of operation is based on Nokia Telecommunications’ competence areas and cross divisional system processes. This will further enhance its capabilities to develop and deliver increasingly complex network solutions.
The Network Systems (NWS) Division will be responsible for Switching, Intelligent Networks, Network management and Private Mobile Radio businesses as well as total system deliveries covering both switches and access. Mr. Mikko Heikkonen has been appointed President, Network Systems. Currently, Mr. Heikkonen is President of Nokia Telecommunications’ Network and Access Systems Division. Mr. Lauri Melamies has been appointed Senior Vice President, Switching Systems. Currently, Mr. Melamies is Senior Vice President of the Mobile Switching Business Unit.
The Radio Access Systems (RAS) Division will be responsible for Base Station, Base Station Controller, Wireless Transmission and Fixed Wireless businesses. Mr. J.T.Bergqvist, Ph.D., has been appointed Senior Vice President, Radio Access Systems. Currently, Dr. Bergqvist is Vice President of the Cellular Transmission Business Unit.
The Fixed Access Systems (FAS) Division will be responsible for fixed access network and dedicated network businesses. Mr. Kari Suneli has been appointed Senior Vice President, Fixed Access Systems. Currently, Mr. Suneli is Senior Vice President of the Access Systems Business Unit.
The Information Networking Systems (INS) Division will be responsible for exploiting business opportunities in wireless as well as wireline data and Internet markets. Mr. Tero Laaksonen has been appointed Senior Vice President, Information Networking Systems. Currently, Mr. Laaksonen is Senior Vice President for Nokia Telecommunications’ System Platforms Division.
Mr. Pekka Oranen will continue as Senior Vice President, Customer Services.
Mr. Pekka Lundmark has been appointed Vice President, Business and Operations Development. Currently, Mr. Lundmark is Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Access Systems.
"Nokia Telecommunications has been very successful in the highly competitive global GSM/DCS system markets. We are currently supplying GSM/DCS systems in 31 countries for 49 operators. Also, fixed network services in many countries are now undergoing deregulation, and we have been able to strengthen our position in this market area too," said Mr. Matti Alahuhta, President, Nokia Telecommunications.
"This new mode of operation, which will take place on January 1, 1997, is a logical continuation of earlier organizational changes made in 1993 and 1995. It puts us in a better position to deliver more complex, broad scope solutions as our customers enhance their service range," Mr. Alahuhta pointed out.
