Nokia to Supply Business Access Network to Telecom New Zealand
June 27, 1996

Nokia Telecommunication has recently signed a five-year contract with Telecom New Zealand Limited for the supply of a complete business access network solution. The first-phase deliveries will commence immediately.

The business access solution to be delivered by Nokia incorporates SDH, primary multiplex equipment, HDSL equipment, network management and support services.

Telecom Manager Transmission Systems, Christopher Swan says the network access equipment will be used to deliver a range of services such as enhanced Centrex. "This further improves the robustness of our network, offers greater risk management, and enhanced service quality for our larger customers," Mr Swan said. "It also provides us with flexible architecture capable of supporting the technology and business systems of the future."

"We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract." states Mr. Kari Suneli, Senior Vice President, Access Systems, Nokia Telecommunications. "Not only is New Zealand Telecom a very forward-thinking telecoms company, it is succeeding in one of the world´s most deregulated telecoms market. This demonstrates the excellence of our solutions for telecom companies operating in highly competitive environments."

Nokia has previously delivered PDH fibre-optic systems to New Zealand Telecom starting in 1989.

Note to editors: SDH systems improve the capacity and availability in the telecommunications network. SDH enables the operator to, e.g. supervise and allocate network resources for optimal performance at any time. SDH is also a platform for future telecommunications services.
