Nokia To Supply GSM Network to Poland

Polkomtel SA and Nokia Telecommunications, the infrastructure arm of the Finland-based Nokia Group, have signed a three-year frame agreement for the supply of a GSM network and implementation services. The contract follows a preliminary agreement signed on April 23 of this year between the two parties.
According to the contract, Nokia will supply to Polkomtel SA DX 200 GSM mobile switches, base stations, base station controllers, a Short Message Service Center and a network management system. The value of deliveries scheduled through the end of 1997 is estimated at about DEM 200 million.
Polkomtel SA was the first operator to get the license to operate GSM network in Poland. Polkomtel SA is a joint venture of Petrochemia Plock, KGHM Polska Miedz, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, Stalexport, Weglokoks, Telbank, Telenergo and Air Touch of USA and Tele Denmark. Polkomtel SA plans to launch its network in fourth quarter of this year.
