Nokia Supplies SDH and PDH Transmission Systems to Telecom Finland
June 10, 1996
Telecom Finland and Nokia Telecommunications have signed agreements for the supply of comprehensive digital SDH and PDH transmission systems. The value of the contracts is approximately USD 20 million.
Nokia will deliver its SYNFONET SDH transmission equipment as well as its PDH transmission equipment to Telecom Finland. Nokia will thus become the leading STM1 and STM4 equipment supplier to Telecom Finland.
SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) systems improve capacity and availability in the telecommunications network. SDH enables the operator to e.g. supervise and allocate network resources for optimal performance at any given time. SDH is also a platform for future telecommunications services.
Nokia will also become an important supplier of microwave radio links to Telecom Finland. Nokia’s new generation PrimeHopper microwave links are especially suitable for today’s highly integrated base station sites in cellular networks. Nokia’s HDSL equipment and new generation multiplexers are also new products in the agreement.
