Nokia Supplies Beijing GSM Network Expansion

Nokia Telecommunications and Beijing Telecommunications Administration (BTA) have signed an agreement for the expansion of the GSM digital cellular network in Beijing, the Capital of the People's Republic of China. The expansion will increase the capacity of the Beijing network to approximately 250.000 subscribers. The value of the contract is more than USD 20 million.
Nokia will supply to Beijing its DX 200 switching technology, base stations, base station controllers, voice mail system, network management system expansions, as well as implementation and training services.
Nokia announced the first phase order of the Beijing GSM network in May 1994, and the first expansion order in February 1995.
