Nokia Announces USD 20 Million Contract with American Personal Communications
March 25, 1996

Nokia today announced a new agreement with American Personal Communications (Sprint Spectrum) to deliver Personal Communications Services (PCS) handsets worth USD 20 Million for the next generation of mobile communications services to customers in the Washington D.C./Baltimore region.


"Nokia is pleased to announce the extension of our relationship with Sprint Spectrum, delivering our award-winning 2190 handset with PCS 1900 digital voice and data applications," said Osmo Hautanen, Vice President, Nokia PCS.

"Nokia is delighted with the success Sprint Spectrum is enjoying as an innovator in the PCS marketplace." Hautanen added. "Nokia has provided handsets to Sprint Spectrum since its launch in November 1995 and we regard this new contract as a real milestone in bringing information age services to the consumer."

Nokia is a global telecommunications systems and equipment manufacturer, providing mobile telephones in most digital and analog standards. The PCS 1900 handsets are manufactured in Nokia’s Dallas/Ft.Worth facility. Based in Finland, Nokia is Europe’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones with sales in 120 countries. A pioneer in digital switching and cellular technology, Nokia develops technology for wireless data, fixed wireless systems, network access solutions and other new product categories.
