Nokia to Supply SDH Transmission System to CAT of Thailand
March 15, 1996

Nokia Telecommunications has recently signed a contract with the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) for an SDH-based transmission network that is to be implemented in the Bangkok area and perimeter. The first deliveries have already begun.

The complete system being delivered by Nokia includes SDH and PDH equipment, a network management system and customer service packages. It will be used in CATīs network to carry primarily international and data services for both residential and business customers. Nokia has been delivering a wide range of transmission equipment to CAT since 1985.

The Nokia SDH system is called SYNFONET. As part of the complete Nokia transmission solution, SYNFONET provides a managed, reliable and cost effective network, which seamlessly interconnects the telecommunications users with the services of the operator. Nokia currently has 22 SDH contracts in 11 countries.

CAT is Thailandīs PTT organisation concentrating on postal and international telecommunications services. CATīs revenue in 1994 was approximately USD 852 million. The company employees 25,802 people.

Note to editors: SDH systems improve the capacity and availability in the telecommunications network. SDH enables the operator to, e.g. supervise and allocate network resources for optimal performance at any time. SDH is also a platform for future telecommunications services.
