Nokia to withdraw from the TV business
February 28, 1996
The Nokia Board of Directors has decided today that Nokia will withdraw from the loss-making television business. In Nokia's view, the state of the European television market now requires new industrial arrangements.
"The capacity and cost reductions that we announced in January were intended to bring our television production into line with market demand. However, our present view of the market does not support the continuation of an independent television business," says Tapio Hintikka, President of Nokia General Communications Products.
Further arrangements for withdrawal from the television business will be decided on the basis of partnership and other negotiations.
