Nokia 2110 - Outstanding phone of the year -Nokia's phone gets award by GSM professionals
February 26, 1996

The most portable phone became the most outstanding phone on Thursday in the GSM World Conference in Cannes, France, as the Nokia 2110 GSM handportable was awarded the nomination of 'outstanding phone'. This award has a special importance as the nomination was the result of a vote among the approximately 2000 conference participants.

The GSM World Conference is organised by the GSM MoU group, now for the 10th time. It has become the annual meeting point of GSM professionals. For the first time, the MoU awarded companies and people for outstanding achievements. In addition to the Nokia 2110, further Nokia products, the Cellular Data Card and the Data Card Expander, received special nominations in the category of Innovations of the year.

"Nokia launched the digital Nokia 2100 phone series two years ago with products for all digital standards", said Senior Vice President Anssi Vanjoki of Nokia Mobile Phones, after receiving the award in Cannes.

"During this time the Nokia 2110 has become a recognised icon for the entire category of cellular phones and is one of the most popular phones among GSM subscribers. We acknowledge the award as an important external proof for the success of our products. It confirms that the usability aspects of our phones are well received and shows that we are on the right path to make cellular phones a popular item for wide user groups," commented Vanjoki.

The GSM MoU Award for the Most outstanding cellular phone is the tenth award for the Nokia 2110 or its sister products. It has earned the nomination for best product of the year by the Business Week magazine in early 1995, and the Cellnet Caesar Award for best performance. Among other special nominations are several awards by industry magazines and design authorities, the latest being the Editors' Pick of the Home Office Computing Magazine in the USA in January 1996.
