Nokia to Expand Pannon GSM Network
February 20, 1996
Nokia Telecommunications and Pannon GSM in Hungary have signed a long-term frame agreement for the supply of GSM equipment. This agreement is a continuation of the cooperation that began in 1993 when Nokia was chosen to supply a GSM network to Pannon. The agreement is worth about USD 50 million in 1996.
Nokia will supply base stations, base station controllers and mobile switching equipment to Pannon GSM. Nokia will also provide implementation services and technical support. The deliveries will support Pannon's plans to provide coverage nationwide by the end of 1996.
Pannon was established in 1993 and is a consortium of PTT Telecom of the Netherlands, Telecom Finland, TeleDanmark, Telia of Sweden, Telenor of Norway and a number of Hungarian companies. At the end of 1995 Pannon had 72,000 subscribers.
