Nokia to Supply Public Trunking Mobile Radio System to TAC in Thailand
January 30, 1996
Total Access Communications (TAC), a subsidiary of UCOM group in Thailand has awarded Nokia Telecommunications a major contract of a nationwide trunked mobile network. The contract is valued more than USD 15 million.
Nokia will supply its proven Actionet trunked mobile radio system for TAC. Trunked mobile services - to be known as World Radio - will be launched for professional users, such as transportation companies, in early 1996. This contract is a breakthrough in South East Asia for MPT 1327 standard, which is already used in most European countries.
TAC's network will include a central exchange, several regional exchanges and a chain of base stations. The network' services will be tailored for organizations wishing to manage the field operations of their mobile personnel, to improve performance and to cut operating costs. A variety of cost-controlled tariffs will be available. The network will operate on the 500 MHz frequency band.
Note to the editors:
Nokia's Actionet can be configured for regional and nation wide use. Actionet can either be dedicated to a single organization, or shared amongst several user organizations.
Nokia is the leading supplier of MPT 1327 trunked networks with over 300 systems installed in more than 25 countries around the world, including Germany, the Netherland, Great Britain and Australia. Nokia is also playing a leading role in the development of digital TETRA systems with services and features designed to serve public safety and security applications.
