Nokia Supplies GSM Network to Yunnan Province in China

Nokia's 8th GSM contract to China in 11 months

Yunnan Post and Telecommunications Administration (PTA) and Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd. have signed an agreement for the supply of a GSM network to Yunnan province in China. The value of the contract is approximately USD 20 million.

Nokia will supply to Yunnan province the complete GSM infrastructure Nokia DX 200 mobile switching centres, base stations, base station controllers, operation and maintenance centre, voice mail system and necessary cellular transmission equipment. Nokia will also provide implementation services and training to the Yunnan PTA.

The capacity of the network will be approximately 100,000 subscribers and it will be opened in the summer 1996.

Nokia has signed eight GSM contracts with the Chinese operators during the last 11 months. Nokia has supplied or will supply in the near future its GSM technology to Beijing and Shanghai, as well as to provinces of Fujian, Zheijang, Henan, Jiangxi, Hunan and Yunnan.
