Nokia Supplies GSM Network Expansion to Fujian in China

Nokia Telecommunications and the Fujian Post and Telecommunications Administration have signed a contract for the expansion of their GSM network in Fujian province in People's Republic of China. The initial network, delivered by Nokia, was taken into operation November 18, 1995. Deliveries for the expansion will commence in the near future and it will be opened during 1996. The value of the contract is approximately USD 30 million.
Under this expansion contract, Nokia will deliver to Fujian PTA the complete GSM infrastructure, including a new Nokia DX 200 mobile switching centre and expansions to existing ones, base stations and base station controllers, expansion to the operation and maintenance centre as well as relevant test tools and a portable network measurement system. The system will offer versatile services for its users.
Further enhancements to the radio coverage in five major cities in the Fujian province will continue: the capital city of Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Putian, Zhangzhou and one of China's special economic zones, the city of Xiamen. After the expansion, the network will have a capacity of up to 235,000 subscribers.
In October, 1995, Nokia announced a contract with the Jiangxi PTA for the supply of a GSM network to Jiangxi province and an agreement with the Henan PTA for the supply of a GSM network to Henan province. Previously, Nokia supplied a GSM network to Beijing Telecommunications Administration in 1994 and expanded the network in 1995. In June, 1995, Nokia signed a contract with Shanghai Unicom for the supply of GSM base station subsystems. In August, Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd. and the Zhejiang PTA signed a contract for the supply of a GSM network to Zhejiang province.
