Nokia Launches a Family Phone

Nokia Mobile Phones is launching an easy-to-use mobile phone for the consumer market. Called RinGo, it will be Nokia’s first handportable which is pre-programmed and ready for use immediately upon purchasing the phone. The attactively priced RinGo phone is simple to purchase and inexpensive to use.

Combining a packaged product and service, RinGo is a revolutionary cellular concept. It has been developed in cooperation with operators in Scandinavia. The concept will differ slightly in each country, but usually RinGo will comprise of an activated line with air-time included, low tariffs, special prefix and new channels of distribution. The sales package includes everything the cellular user needs to start making calls right away.

"As the cellular market continues to shift towards consumers, we believe that there will be considerable demand for a concept like Nokia RinGo. The ready-to-use product is simple to purchase and offers true ease-of-use at an extremely affordable price. Our primary target market for Nokia RinGo are new mobile phone users, such as families with children, retired people, students as well as people who need a second phone," says Anssi Vanjoki, Senior Vice President for Sales in Europe and Africa.

Nokia RinGo will be launched in Finland and Denmark on November 20, 1995. The phone will also be available in other NMT 900 countries in the near future.

The green grey Nokia RinGo is durable and features modern design and appearance, with a clear display and large buttons. Other features include permanent battery and signal strength indicators, last number redial, nine memory locations, keyguard and earpiece volume controls. The weight of the phone is only 260 grams. Talk time will be up to 2 hours 30 minutes and standby time up to 60 hours. A range of accessories will be available for Nokia RinGo, including a belt clip, carrying cases, cigarrette lighter charger and a mobile holder for the car. RinGo offers no international roaming.
