Nokia Supplies GSM Network to Jiangxi PTA in China

Nokia Telecommunications and Jiangxi Posts-Telecoms Administration have signed an agreement for the supply of a GSM digital cellular network to the Jiangxi province in China. Deliveries will begin this year and the network will be taken into operation within the first half of 1996. The capacity of the network will be approximately 30,000 subscribers.

Nokia will deliver to Jiangxi Posts-Telecoms Administration GSM infrastructure including a Nokia DX 200 mobile switching centre, base stations, base station controllers, operation and maintenance centre, home location register, as well as short message centre, voice mail and transmission equipment.

Earlier this month Nokia announced an agreement with Henan Post and Telecommunications Administration for the supply of a GSM network to Henan province. Previously, Nokia supplied a GSM network to Beijing Telecommunications Administration in 1994 and expanded the network this year. In April, 1995, Nokia signed an agreement with Fujian Post and Telecommunications Administration for the supply of a GSM network to Fujian province. In June, Nokia announced an agreement with Shanghai Unicom for the supply of GSM base station subsystems. In August, Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd. and Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Administration signed a contract for the supply of a GSM network to Zhejiang province.

Nokia is a Finland-based telecommunications group with net sales in USD 6.3 billion in 1994 and personnel numbering 31,000 people. Nokia is a world leader in GSM/DCS cellular networks, and to date, Nokia GSM/DCS technology has been supplied to or ordered by 36 operators in 24 countries.
