Nokia Extends Europolitan's GSM Network in Sweden
October 31, 1995

The Swedish GSM operator Europolitan has signed a two year frame agreement with Nokia Telecommunications for the expansion of its GSM network. The value of this agreement is estimated to SEK 450 million.

Deliveries will commence at the end of 1995. Nokia products being supplied include Nokia's DX 200 exchanges, base stations, base station controllers, transmission equipment, as well as Intelligent Network (IN) equipment and IN services to Europolitan´s GSM network.

"We are pleased to note, that Nokia continues to be the first to market with new GSM developments. This is in line with Europolitan's strategy of being the leader in supplying advanced, high quality services to its customers", says Mr. Tomas Isaksson, President of Europolitan AB.

In addition, this agreement includes a provision for the supply of equipment for the DCS1800 cellular standard, allowing Europolitan to further expand their services and cellular capacity in a seamless solution. Most of the existing equipment can be used in a cost-effective way for these frequencies together with existing GSM frequencies.

"Europolitan and Nokia have worked together for four years to build one of the best quality GSM networks in the world today. Together we have launched a number of new advanced services like data and fax including LAN connectivity. We now look forward to introduction, in cooperation with Europolitan, new IN services for the Swedish market", says Ms. Sari Baldauf, President of Nokia Telecommunications' Cellular Systems Division.

Today Europolitan's network offers geographical coverage to more than 95% of the Swedish population. According to Mr. Isaksson these new investments will increase outdoor and in-building coverage and ensure smooth capacity expansion to match growth in demand. The introduction of IN will give Europolitan the ability to continue as the most advanced network operator in Sweden and to offer new and customized services more rapidly in response to customer demands.

Nokia is a world leader in digital GSM/DCS cellular networks, and to date Nokia GSM/DCS has been supplied to or ordered by 36 operators in 24 countries.
