Nokia supplies GSM network to Zhejiang in China

Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd and Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Administration have signed a contract for supply of a GSM network to Zhejiang province in China.
Deliveries will commence in the near future and network will be taken into operation during 1995. The contract is the first GSM order to Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd. The value of the contract is more than USD 20 million.
Nokia will deliver to Zheijiang the complete GSM infrastructure. It will supply DX 200 switching centres, base stations and base station controllers, operation and maintenance centre as well as mobile phones.
The system will offer versatile services for the users, e.g. data and fax calls. In addition, Nokia will supply a short message service centre, voice mail and network planning systems.
The Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Administration’s GSM network will be implemented during 1995. The network will at its initial stage cover two major cities: Wnzhou and one of the China’s busiest harbour, city of Ningbo.
Previously Nokia has supplied a GSM network to Beijing Telecommunications Administration in 1994 and has expanded the network this year. In April 1995, Nokia signed a contract with Fujian Post and Telecommunications Administration for the supply of a GSM network to Fujian province. In June, Nokia announced an agreement with Shanghai Unicom for the supply of GSM base station subsystems. GSM has already proven itself as the digital cellular standard also in China. This contract further strengthens the position of both GSM standard and Nokia in China.
Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications is a 50 - 50 Joint Venture between Beijing Telecommunications Equipment Factory of MPT and Nokia. It was established in April, 1995 under the wide-range cooperation agreement between Nokia and Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd manufactures digital radio base stations and mobile phones and provides distribution, marketing and customer services for mobile phones and network products.
