Nortel and Nokia
July 12, 1995
Nortel and Nokia have successfully demonstrated interworking between PCS 1900 mobility switching and base station radio equipment for personal communications networks in North America.
In joint tests the companies verified interoperability between Nortel's DMS Mobile Switching Center (DMS-MSC) and Nokia's PCS 1900 Base Station System using the PCS 1900 "A" interface. The tests included voice, data, short messasing, and facsimile services.
PCS 1900 has been accepted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a North American standard for the 1.9 Ghz mobile telephone service. It is compatible with the GSM standard adopted by more than 100 mobile telephone service operators in 70 countries.
