Nokia General Communications Products
June 16, 1995
Nokia has established a new business group by consolidating its Nokia Consumer and Industrial Electronics business group and its Nokia Cables and Machinery.
The new Nokia General Communications Products group will be headed by President Tapio Hintikka.
Nokia General Communications Products focuses strongly on future interactive home electronics products that incorporate Nokia's strong expertise in television and monitor production as well as image processing and transmission technology. The business group's very rapidly developing line of products include satellite and cable receivers, multimedia monitors, advanced television applications as well as electronic products related to automobile communications capabilities and safety. Also, the global markets for cellular phone chargers and other components are expanding, and the demand for TV loudspeakers and hi-fi products is on the rise.
The optical fibre and radio frequency cables associated with Nokia's comprehensive expertise in the telecommunications industry represent the leading know-how in the global cable industry and strengthen Nokia's position as a designer and supplier of telecommunications equipment and systems. Nokia Cable Industry is also a significant manufacturer of other top quality cable products.
"Nokia has consciously raised its overall expertise in telecommunications, and we are now very much a part of one ofthe world's fastest growing industries. The new business group structure streamlines and strengthens management of the Nokia Group. The solution was partly based on a multimedia project at the Nokia Group level in which Nokia's strengths in future interactive communications were analyzed," commented President Tapio Hintikka.
The Nokia General Communications Products business group has production in nine countries and its products are marketed globally. The combined 1994 net sales of Nokia Consumer and Industrial Electronics and Nokia Cables and Machinery, which now form the new business group, were FIM 11,537 million. This year Nokia General Communications Products will be reported as its own entity in the Nokia Group's eight month interim report in October.
