Nokia plans new manufacturing site in the U.S.

Nokia Telecommunications has begun the search of a manufacturing and R&D location in the U.S.. The new facility will be part of Nokia's global R&D and manufacturing operations.
The R&D unit will focus on research and development of GSM-based systems, with special emphasis on PCS infrastructure. The manufacturing unit will produde base stations systems for GSM and PCS markets world-wide, with significant exports to Asia and Europe.
"The decision on the location will be taken with the next few weeks and our goal is to become operational in early 1996", said Mr Jyrki Salo, President of Nokia Telecommunications, US.
