Nokia launches Formula One team for 1995 season

Nokia Group today announced its decision to participate as a Title Sponsor in the 1995 FIA Formula One World Championship Season.
As a Title Sponsor, Nokia will work in partnership with the Tyrrell Yamaha organization and will field a team in Formula One competition around the world under the NOKIA Tyrrell Yamaha team name. The team drivers will be Ukyo Katayama and Mika Salo.
Discussing the company's decision at the Nokia head office in Helsinki, Mr. Seppo Härkönen, Vice President, Corporate Communications, said: "We are delighted to announce the creation of the NOKIA Tyrrell Yamaha team for 1995. Our partnership for the world Formula One Grand Prix series will provide Nokia a great opportunity to underscore the globalization of our telecommunications business. With the kind of awareness Formula One events create Nokia will greatly enhance its marketing activities in key markets around the world."
Härkönen added, "Tyrrell is widely respected as a worthy competitor and, like Nokia, is committed to excellence and determined to succeed. We at Nokia are excited by this partnership and by the NOKIA Tyrrell Yamaha team's prospects for the current season."
1995 Formula One Grand Prix competition gets underway later this month with the first race set for 26 March, in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
