Nokia supplies DCS1800 network to Switzerland
January 13, 1995
Nokia Telecommunications and the Swiss PTT have signed a contract for the supply of DCS1800 digital cellular network to Switzerland to be operational in October 1995 during the Telecom '95 exhibition in Geneva.
The Swiss PTT will cover not only the Palexpo/airpost area, but most of the city in this pilot project. The network is expected to handle some 6 000 subscribers. The Swiss PTT's plan is to offer international roaming with several other European and Asian DCS1800 networks during the exhibition.
Nokia will deliver base stations, base station controllers and Operation and Management Center to the Swiss PTT. Nokia will also provide installation and commissioning services through its local office and its Customer Service Center, Central Europe.
