Nokia in Partnership with Dassault A.T. Delivers Turnkey DCS 1800 Cellular Network to Bouygues Telecom
The project will include the supply of base stations, base station controllers, operation systems, cellular transmission equipment, antennas, and the associated services: site research and preparation, network engineering and optimization, implementation and maintenance.
According to Mr Patrick Leleu, Managing Director of Bouygues Telecom, This project supports fast implementation of the Bouygues Telecom network in France. Nokia's and Dassault A.T.'s know-how should allow Bouygues Telecom to put its network into commercial service already during the fourth quarter of 1997.
Bouygues Telecom is the first French operator to develop and operate a national DCS 1800 cellular network. Since its launch in the Paris area just four months ago, on May 30th, the Bouygues Telecom personal telephony network has attracted 50 000 subscribers. This success is mainly due to the concept of a monthly flat fee (subscription + call charges), and the simplicity of the commercial all-in-one offer. The forthcoming opening of the Bouygues Telecom network in the Rhône-Alpes area will be the first step in its fast expansion throughout France, allowing Bouygues Telecom to cover 50% of the population by the end of 1997 and over 90% by the end of 1999.
The GIE Dassault A.T. - Nokia partnership brings together Dassault A.T.s local competence in cellular network implementation and Nokias proven DCS 1800 technology. It was created in October 1995 with the objective of implementing DCS 1800 networks.
Dassault Automatismes et Télécommunications (Dassault Electronique Group), with a turnover of 1,032 million French Francs for 1995, designs, manufactures and markets equipment for professional and consumer markets in three key areas : Automated systems: banking terminals, electronic payment terminals and electronic fund transfer systems, automatic ticketing and access control systems; Telecommunications: wireless telephone systems, radio link subscriber connections, complex telephone line test and measurement systems; Services: deployment projects for telecommunications operators and maintenance.
